The second-hand marketplace Users Voice Anger About Size Modifications

Members of the platform have expressed outrage due to a modification that led to listings displaying inaccurate size information.

The popular resale platform has updated its measurement guidelines for women's and children's garments but did not contact all users about the change.

Social Media Response

Numerous buyers and vendors have taken to social media claiming that product pages now present a different size category than originally posted due to the recalibration.

Vinted explained the updated approach better aligns with other platforms.

They have suggested members to check their listings and manually change the size when needed, causing user dissatisfaction.

Size Classification Changes

Earlier, the measurements included numerical and alphabetical indicators, such as S/8 or M/10.

The new system has a letter with a size spectrum for example S/UK 8-10.

For certain items, the sizing has been recategorised - for example a size L was formerly size 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.

Shopper Accounts

A fashion influencer, who creates plus-size fashion videos, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".

"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," as the platform currently indicates.

Stephanie Gallen, from Glasgow, said garments she listed on Vinted with size 14 labels were appearing on the platform as larger sizing 20-22.

"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they may become frustrated," she explained.

Required Changes

A different user, based in Derby, stated she felt frustrated due to the update requiring manual adjustment the measurements for "each individual item".

"Personally, this is quite irritating, because of my ongoing medical condition and platform income has been essential after experiencing income reduction," she explained.

Platform Context

The platform boasts over 100 million members, comprising 18 million UK members.

It has proved a popular alternative to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop.

This represents another occasion that an unexpected update on the platform has faced criticism: previously, Vinted reversed a change regarding delivery choices following member complaints.
