2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to lead the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the anticipated third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.
The new appointee steps into the role of studio head at the development studio following the dismissal of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's disappointing early showing last fall.
On Wednesday, 2K president a key figure notified team members about this organizational change through an internal memo, which highlighted that playtesting had shown the necessity for a more defined direction.
The president stated that the team is now overhauling the project with a revised focus, aiming to better meet gamer demands.
This announcement follows a comparable move taken by the publisher in the summer, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to assist with the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.

Hello Everyone—
I know you all just completed your meeting - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Previously I sent you all a update, I stated the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most dedicated and talented designers we have had the chance to partner with - and we’re eager for that partnership to continue.”
With your dedication and adaptability, especially over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.
The player input from last fall’s the game demo was enlightening. It confirmed the appeal of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had work to do. It uncovered the necessity for a more distinct vision.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve progressed. You embraced the criticism to mind and overhauled Project ETHOS with a renewed vision - one that’s positioned to achieve its ambition to our audience.
The belief in Project ETHOS increases every day. To advance the remarkable progress you’ve made, I’m excited to welcome the new hire as the latest Director of 31st Union. Following some time of conversations, Ben officially joins us on the specified date.
Ben’s guidance and background in the competitive gaming genre is vast, having devoted the last 15 years developing and leading some of the most recognizable series in the industry, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, the battle royale hit.
Please join me in receiving him soon. We are all looking forward to persist observing the evolution of the game in the time to come.
David
The appointee presently holds the role of executive producer and head of production at the renowned studio for Apex Legends. He earlier worked at major gaming companies in various production roles on the Call of Duty games, and, prior to that, had assignments at 2K and Electronic Arts.
The upcoming game was revealed in October 2024 alongside a public demo. Initially, the developers described the game as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an exciting step forward on the genre."
"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Customize your character in real-time to match your preferred approach," the game's pitch explains. "Take on the competition with fresh skills, risks, and obstacles that evolve every session. Do you leave securely with your valuable rewards? Alternatively go big, put it on the line, and pray your squad can secure victory? The choice is yours."
Project Ethos has not yet received an announced debut schedule or platforms, but fans can look forward to further news as development advances.
