PSG Overcomes Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Secure French Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now won the season-opening cup on fourteen different times.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the match featuring the French league champions and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the net in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille fired twice late to take a shock advantage. Initially, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial leveler in the final seconds to force the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping crucial attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for PSG to complete a 4-1 penalty win.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the past 13 seasons.
